Abstract

Forensic chemistry plays a crucial role in criminal investigations by analyzing physical evidence using advanced analytical techniques. This article highlights the importance of instrumental methods such as chromatography, spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry in forensic analysis. These techniques enable accurate identification and quantification of drugs, poisons, and unknown substances. Recent advancements have significantly improved sensitivity, selectivity, and reliability. This paper also discusses applications, challenges, and future perspectives in forensic chemical analysis. Forensic chemistry finds wide applications in areas such as toxicology, narcotics analysis, environmental forensics, and explosive residue detection. Despite these advancements, challenges such as sample contamination, complex matrices, limited sample availability, and the need for rigorous method validation persist. Future perspectives emphasize the development of rapid, non-destructive techniques, increased use of artificial intelligence and machine learning, and stronger quality assurance protocols to ensure accuracy and reproducibility in forensic investigations.
