Every research article, review and short communication submitted to Chemical Science Review and Letters is peer reviewed before a decision is made.
Review model
The journal uses single-blind peer review: reviewers know the authors’ identities, but authors are not told who reviewed their manuscript.
Process
- Initial check. The editorial office checks that the manuscript is within the scope of the journal, follows the Author Guidelines and passes a plagiarism check. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned or rejected without review.
- Reviewer assignment. The editor assigns the manuscript to three to five reviewers with expertise in the subject. Authors must suggest at least three potential reviewers at submission; the editor may or may not invite them.
- Review time. Reviewers are asked to complete their review within 10–15 working days. In general, the peer review process is completed within 10–20 working days.
- Decision. Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editor decides to accept, request minor or major revision, or reject. The final decision rests with the editor.
- Revision. Revised manuscripts must address every reviewer comment and are sent to admin@chesci.com. They may be sent for further review.
Reviewers
Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential, review objectively, declare any conflict of interest and decline to review if they cannot be impartial. Duties of reviewers are described in the Ethical Guidelines.
Authors as reviewers
By submitting to the journal, authors agree to review at least one manuscript in their area of expertise when invited.
Appeals
Authors may appeal a decision by writing to admin@chesci.com with a detailed response to the reviewers’ comments. Appeals are assessed by the editor.
